The studio

Good design here isn’t about more space.
It’s about better decisions.

8D Interior Design is a Singapore studio working across HDB flats, condominiums, landed homes and commercial spaces. We spend our days inside the real constraints of local homes — structural walls that can’t move, bomb shelters that interrupt a layout, afternoon sun that turns a west-facing room into an oven.

Our job is to make those constraints disappear into a home that feels effortless: storage where you reach for it, light where you sit, materials that still look right after years of daily use. Beautiful, yes — but liveable first.

You’ll work directly with the people designing and coordinating your renovation, from first sketch to handover.

Services

What we do,
and who it’s for.

Every engagement starts with the same question: what should this space do for the people in it? Open a service to see how we answer it.

  • Who it's for
Owners collecting keys to a new BTO, or reworking a resale flat that hasn't been touched in decades.
    The problem
HDB works come with rules — permits, hacking restrictions, approved contractors — and a blank flat gives you no clue where the money should go.
    What you get
A permit-compliant design and quotation, HDB submissions handled for you, and a renovation sequenced so trades don't trip over each other.

How it works

Seven steps.
No surprises.

A renovation involves dozens of people and hundreds of decisions. This is the order we put them in — so you always know what happens next.

  1. 01

    Consultation

A no-obligation conversation about your space, your budget and how you live. Bring your floor plan if you have one — we'll talk through what's realistic.

  2. 02

    Site Understanding

We measure and walk the actual unit: structural walls, ceiling heights, natural light, plumbing runs. Design decisions start from what's really there.

  3. 03

    Space Planning

Layout options on paper first — where walls, storage and circulation should go. The cheapest place to change your mind is at this stage.

  4. 04

    Concept & 3D Design

The chosen layout becomes a full design: 3D visuals of your rooms, materials and finishes selected against samples you can hold.

  5. 05

    Quotation & Timeline

A detailed, itemised quotation and a realistic works schedule — so you know what you're paying for and when each stage happens.

  6. 06

    Renovation Coordination

We sequence and supervise the trades, handle HDB or management approvals, and keep you updated as your renovation progresses on site.

  7. 07

    Handover

A joint walkthrough of the finished space, defects checked and rectified, and your home ready to move into.

Why 8D

The quiet work that makes a renovation easy.

  • Designed for Singapore homes

HDB rules, bomb shelters, bay windows, west sun — we design around the constraints local homes actually have.

  • One point of coordination

Trades, permits and timelines are sequenced and supervised by us, so you're not managing five contractors yourself.

  • Layout before looks

Space planning comes first. A beautiful room with storage in the wrong place is still a daily annoyance.

  • Guided material choices

We narrow thousands of tiles, laminates and stones down to a palette that suits your home, budget and tolerance for upkeep.

  • Transparent communication

Itemised quotations, a realistic schedule, and updates while works are on site — you always know where things stand.

  • Balance, not extremes

Every decision weighs looks, budget and daily use together. A home has to survive Mondays, not just photographs.

Budget guidance

Where the money actually goes.

We can’t price a home we haven’t seen, and any site that hands you a figure without one is guessing. What we can tell you is which decisions move the total most.

Untick anything you’re not planning to touch.

  • Built-in carpentry & storage

    Major cost driver

Every cabinet is made to measure for your unit. Cost climbs with each additional run of carpentry, and again with door and finish choices.

  • Kitchen & bathroom works

    Major cost driver

Waterproofing, tiling, plumbing and fittings stack up in the smallest rooms in the home.

  • Hacking & structural changes

    Moderate cost driver

Removing a wall also means debris disposal, permits where required, and rebuilding whatever that wall was doing.

  • Flooring

    Moderate cost driver

Priced by area, so it scales with floor size — and overlaying costs differently from hacking off the existing finish.

  • Electrical & lighting

    Moderate cost driver

Each new point means concealed conduit and wall chasing. Rewiring an older flat costs more than adding points in a new one.

  • False ceiling & partitions

    Moderate cost driver

Priced by the run, and by how much cove lighting is built into it.

  • Painting

    Minor cost driver

Usually one of the smaller lines, unless you're after specialty finishes or extensive colour work.

  • Doors, windows & hardware

    Minor cost driver

A short list of items — but solid doors and good ironmongery cost noticeably more than builder-grade.

For this scope, expect built-in carpentry & storage to take the largest share of your budget.

This is a general guide to relative impact — not a quotation. What your renovation actually costs depends on the size and condition of your unit, how much is being changed, and the materials you choose. That’s what the consultation and site visit are for.
